Addicted Movie Review: I Was Angry Watching Addicted… Until I Understood What Was Really Happening

Addicted is one of those movies that really got me thinking. It is a movie about sex addiction, but for me, it was also about marriage, temptation, forgiveness, communication, and the difficult question of whether love can survive after someone makes a serious mistake.

While watching it, I couldn’t help but think about Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. The two movies are different, but they both deal with marriage, sexual temptation, dissatisfaction, infidelity, and the consequences of choices made outside the relationship.

From the beginning of Addicted, I was angry.

The woman was married, yet she was having an affair with another man. And honestly, I was also angry with the man she was having the affair with because he knew she was married. He knew she had a husband, but he still chose to get involved with her.

As I was watching, I kept thinking, Why would you knowingly get involved with somebody else’s wife?

But as the movie progressed, I started seeing that the situation was more complicated than just a woman who wanted to cheat.

She was struggling with sex addiction.

She wasn’t simply having one affair and moving on. She had sexual fantasies and desires that were affecting her marriage and her life. She wanted to experience intimacy in different ways, including having sex outside the bedroom. You could see that this was something she was struggling with.

And this is where I think her husband also had a role to play.

Let me make something clear: I think her husband was a good man.

He wasn’t cheating on her. He wasn’t sleeping around. He wasn’t the kind of man who wanted sex everywhere. For him, intimacy was something that happened in the bedroom, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

But his wife was different.

She had fantasies. She wanted to do things differently. And I felt that her husband could have made more effort to meet her halfway.

I’m not saying he should become a completely different person or suddenly start behaving in ways that weren’t natural to him. But sometimes in marriage, you have to do things that make your partner happy.

If your wife has a harmless fantasy and she’s asking you to participate, why not try?

It doesn’t necessarily change who you are. You are still the same person. You’re simply trying to make your partner happy and strengthen the intimacy between both of you.

So I blame the husband to a certain extent, not because he caused her addiction or because he was responsible for her affair, but because I think he could have communicated better and been more willing to step outside his comfort zone.

At the same time, I don’t think that excuses what she did.

Her choices were still her responsibility.

You can’t blame your partner for every wrong decision you make.

And that’s one of the things I liked about the movie. It showed that marriage can be complicated. Sometimes two people love each other but don’t fully understand each other’s needs.

Her husband kept saying that he wanted his wife back.

And that line really stood out to me.

Because eventually, this wasn’t just about sex anymore. He wanted the woman he married back.

There was also a moment when he told her, “I assume you’re dead.”

That was painful.

Imagine being so hurt by someone you love that you feel like the person you knew no longer exists.

But despite everything that happened, when she was in danger, he still went after her.

That showed me something important: he was hurt, but he still loved her.

And if I put myself in his position, I honestly don’t know how easy it would be to forgive.

If I were married and my wife cheated on me, I would be hurt. I would feel betrayed. I would probably struggle with forgiveness because forgiveness is easy to talk about until you are the person who has been betrayed.

It’s not easy to forget.

But the movie also reminded me that forgiveness doesn’t mean what happened was okay.

Sometimes people make terrible mistakes. And if the person genuinely realizes that they made a mistake, takes responsibility, and is willing to change, then perhaps there is room for forgiveness.

You cannot undo what has already happened.

You can’t travel back in time and erase it.

But you can decide what happens next.

And that was probably the biggest lesson I took from this movie: forgive the people you love when they genuinely recognize their mistakes and are willing to change.

That doesn’t mean you immediately trust them again. It doesn’t mean you forget the pain. It means you choose not to allow the mistake to completely destroy everything that remains.

The ending was probably my favourite part.

The woman went to therapy and finally admitted:

“My name is… I’m a sex addict.”

That was powerful because she was finally acknowledging the problem instead of hiding from it.

Then her husband came in.

She told him that she loved him.

And the movie ended.

Honestly, I felt like crying.

And then you have that powerful feeling of “I Am a Conqueror” playing at the end. The message of overcoming defeat fit the moment perfectly.

But there is one thing I didn’t like about the ending.

We don’t actually know whether she overcame the addiction.

She went to therapy and admitted that she had a problem, but recovery doesn’t happen overnight. One therapy session isn’t enough to prove that someone has overcome an addiction.

I would have liked the movie to show us what happened afterward.

Did she continue therapy?

Did she relapse?

Did she eventually overcome the addiction?

Did the marriage survive?

We don’t know.

And that’s the one thing I wish the movie had given us.

Because admitting that you have a problem is only the beginning.

Still, I think that may have been the point of the ending. She hadn’t necessarily conquered the addiction yet. She had simply taken the first step.

And sometimes the first step is admitting, “I have a problem, and I need help.”

Overall, I really enjoyed Addicted.

It made me angry. It made me uncomfortable. It made me question both the wife and the husband. And by the end, it genuinely touched me.

It also reminded me of Temptation because both movies made me think about how easily temptation, dissatisfaction, and poor communication can affect a marriage.

But Addicted went deeper into addiction and the struggle to control one’s desires.

For me, the biggest lesson wasn’t even about sex.

It was about marriage, forgiveness, communication, and second chances.

You don’t have to become a completely different person for the person you love. But sometimes, you have to be willing to meet them halfway.

And when someone you love makes a terrible mistake but genuinely recognizes it and wants to change, forgiveness may be difficult—but sometimes, love means giving that person a chance to become better.

Overall, Addicted is a very interesting and emotional movie, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys movies that make you think about relationships and human choices.
