Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor is one of those movies that makes you think about marriage and the consequences of our choices.

The movie follows Judith, a married woman who works as a marriage counselor. She spends her time advising other people about their relationships, but ironically, she eventually finds herself struggling with problems in her own marriage.

And that’s one of the things I found interesting about the movie.

Sometimes, it is easier to give advice to other people than to follow that same advice when you are the one going through the situation.

Judith is married to Brice, and at the beginning, their marriage doesn’t look like a terrible marriage. But there is something missing. Judith begins to feel that her husband doesn’t fully understand or appreciate her needs.

Then she meets Harley. Before you continue, watch the trailer.

And this is where everything begins to change.

Harley gives her attention. He makes her feel desired. He gives her excitement that she feels is missing from her marriage.

And honestly, this is where I think the movie gives us an important lesson about temptation.

Temptation doesn’t always come looking like something dangerous.

Sometimes it comes looking like exactly what you think you need.

Someone tells you the things you want to hear. Someone makes you feel beautiful. Someone makes you feel wanted. Someone gives you attention at a time when you feel neglected.

And before you realize it, you have started crossing boundaries.

That’s what happened to Judith.

She knew she was married.

She knew what she was doing was wrong.

But she kept going.

And that’s one thing I took from the movie: being unhappy in your relationship doesn’t automatically give you permission to betray your partner.

If something is wrong in your marriage, talk about it.

If you feel neglected, communicate it.

If your needs aren’t being met, tell your partner.

And if you’ve tried everything and the marriage genuinely cannot continue, there are still better ways to handle it than secretly starting another relationship.

Because once you introduce another person into the situation, everything becomes much more complicated.

What also made the movie interesting to me is that Judith was a marriage counselor.

She was literally advising other couples on how to save their relationships while her own marriage was falling apart.

That irony was not lost on me.

It reminded me that sometimes knowing what is right doesn’t necessarily mean we will do what is right.

We are all human.

We can know the consequences of something and still make the wrong decision.

But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be responsible for our choices.

One thing I also noticed is how Harley’s attention gradually became something Judith couldn’t easily walk away from.

At first, it seemed exciting.

Then it became an emotional attachment.

Then it became something much more serious.

And that’s how temptation can work.

You don’t always jump from one decision to the worst decision immediately.

Sometimes it’s one conversation.

One secret.

One meeting.

One lie.

Then another.

And before you know it, you’ve gone much further than you ever planned.

That’s why I think communication in marriage is so important.

Your partner cannot read your mind.

If there is something you want from your husband or wife, say it.

If you’re unhappy, say it.

If you want more affection, more intimacy, more attention, more adventure, or simply more time together, communicate it.

You cannot expect someone to fix a problem they don’t even know exists.

But there is another side to this story that I think is equally important: forgiveness.

When someone cheats on you, forgiveness is not easy.

If I put myself in Brice’s position, I would be devastated.

You trust someone, build a life with them, and then discover that they have been involved with someone else.

That kind of betrayal can destroy your confidence and your ability to trust.

And that’s why I don’t think we should casually tell someone, “Just forgive and forget.”

It’s not that simple.

Forgiving someone doesn’t mean you weren’t hurt.

It doesn’t mean what they did was acceptable.

And it doesn’t mean you have to immediately trust them again.

Forgiveness can simply mean choosing not to allow someone else’s mistake to control the rest of your life.

The movie also reminded me of something I said when talking about Addicted: people make mistakes.

Some mistakes have bigger consequences than others.

But if someone genuinely realizes what they have done, takes responsibility, and wants to change, there comes a point where you have to decide whether the person should be defined forever by their worst mistake.

That’s a difficult decision, especially when the person has hurt you deeply.

And that’s what makes movies like Temptation interesting.

They don’t simply ask, “Who is right and who is wrong?”

They make you ask deeper questions.

What happens when you stop communicating with your spouse?

What happens when you allow someone outside your marriage to fill an emotional gap?

How far can temptation take you?

And most importantly, what are you willing to lose for something that may only give you temporary happiness?

For me, that’s the biggest lesson from Temptation.

Don’t destroy something valuable because something new looks exciting.

Sometimes what you already have isn’t perfect.

Your marriage may have problems.

Your partner may have shortcomings.

You may feel unhappy.

But before you allow another person into your life, try to fix what can be fixed.

Talk.

Communicate.

Make compromises.

Go for counseling.

And if both people genuinely try and the relationship still cannot work, then deal with the situation honestly rather than creating another secret relationship.

Because temptation will always look attractive from a distance.

But you don’t always see the consequences until you’re already inside it.

And by then, the thing you were trying to escape from may no longer be the biggest problem.

You may have created something much bigger.

My Final Thoughts

Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor is an emotional movie because it shows how quickly a person can move from dissatisfaction to temptation, and from temptation to consequences.

It also reminded me of Addicted.

Both movies made me think about marriage, intimacy, communication, cheating, forgiveness, and second chances. But while Addicted focuses heavily on addiction, Temptation focuses more on the danger of allowing temptation and dissatisfaction to take control.

And my biggest takeaway from both movies is simple:

Talk to the person you love before you look for what you’re missing somewhere else.

Because sometimes, what you are searching for outside your relationship is something that could have been worked on inside it.

And sometimes, by the time you realize what you had, it may already be too late.
